Most people think that God and politics shouldn’t mix. Don’t put God in a box. He is uncontainable, He is everywhere at all times.
His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9).
On this rainy Friday on January 20th, 2017, Donald J. Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States.
Over the past year, during President Donald J. Trump’s campaign, his private life became public and his every move, thought, speech, and actions were publicly analyzed and scrutinized.
He, who has no sin, cast the first stone (John 8:7).
How many people do you think would vote for you if you ran for President of the United States?
How many sins of your past, miscommunicated intentions, ungracious moments, do you think would be judged for all to see? How would you feel if you received death threats, hate mail, and protesters violating you and your family on one of the most prominent and sacred days of your life? Do not judge, lest you should be judged (Matthew 7:1). The fact of the matter is that NO ONE is perfect. Not even the President of the United States. We live in a fallen and broken and hurting world, and, us imperfect people, no matter how eloquent our speech, how charismatic our presence, how powerful our actions, how loved we are or not by others, how supported we are or not by our nation, will never be able to make America great again, unless used by God and have His calling, His anointing, His power working in and through us to produce change! Not by might, nor by power, but by the power of the Holy Spirit! (Zechariah 4:6)
God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called. President Donald J. Trump may not be what a typical president looks like, sounds like, or even acts like, but God can use anyone or anything for His divine purposes to be accomplished.
Our nation is not the same as it was. Change is coming, and for change to come, there needs to be changes! There is no risk without reward, and President Donald J. Trump may be risky, but it is even riskier to not change. He is in office for such a time as this.
People judge by the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).
If your heart was out on display, what would people see? Most importantly, what does God see? Don't allow your hate or disdain for one part of a man’s life, cause you to overlook his overall character, integrity, and heart. Treat others as you would want to be treated (Luke 6:31). Imagine that you were the President of the United States on Inauguration Day, how would you want to be welcomed by the people? With honor, respect, and dignity. If “love trumps hate,” then start loving, start triumphing, and be the example that you are fighting for and don’t just fight to be the example. As Martin Luther King Jr. once said, and many of you like to quote, "I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear." Whether you chose, prayed for, and supported Mr. Barack Obama for all the eight years he was in office, or you chose Senator Hilary Clinton as she campaigned, or you chose President Donald J. Trump to be appointed as leader of this nation, you should always choose love, not only for those you support, but also for those you may not agree with.
Choosing love doesn't necessarily mean agreeing with all of their viewpoints or beliefs or hiding your truth, it means speaking the truth in love, it means keeping no record of wrong, it means forgiving, and it means always choosing to believe the best (1 Corinthians 13). So start believing the best for our President Donald J. Trump, who was inaugurated today, start believing for America to be great again, start believing that the best is yet to come, and start proclaiming that a nation who keeps God first will always be blessed! Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17).
You may not be in the political office physically, but you can be spiritually through prayer. Start praying for President Donald J. Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, their family, and administration as they embark on the greatest, yet most challenging journey of their lives.
In Jesus’ name, we pray for God’s hand of divine protection, supernatural wisdom, gracious character, child-like faith, and tender humility to overshadow President Donald J. Trump as he takes the steps to lead our country.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
